CHTN's Zoom Program with Jill Mays, July 17 2025, 7:00-8:00pm ET

Author of the recent book, Nurturing Nature--A Guide to Gardening for Special Needs.
Jill will discuss her book and answer questions. Please mark your calendars for this upcoming free event! Reading the book beforehand is highly encouraged.

As an occupational therapist specializing in sensory integration, Jill Mays has conducted workshops in a variety of settings and provided consultation to parents, educators and health care providers. For the past decade she has immersed herself in gardening , working with farmers and assisting in the development of children’s garden programs.  She developed and currently leads a garden group for adults with special needs.  She lives on the far end of Cape Cod, MA.

The paperback book is available on Amazon (check out the review written by CHTN’s BOD member Greg Stivland, OT, HTR),  Good Reads (check out the review written by CHTN member Shauna Farmer), or your local independent bookseller can order.  Dr. Temple Grandin’s quote from the book’s cover “Nurturing Nature provides lots of practical, fun gardening activities for children.  They will learn that nature is much more interesting than electronic devices.”  Dr. Grandin has promoted this book and allowed Jill to sell copies of Nurturing Nature at a recent venue where Ms. Grandin spoke.

Jill was recently interviewed by Jennifer Jewell on the podcast Cultivating Place, where they discussed this book and gardening with vulnerable adult populations and children.
